Mbeya city
After enduring torrid moment with title race looking right on focus, Mbeya City lost grip with two matches to spare to cut their ceiling points to 52.
The mark has already been surpassed by pacemakers Azam FC who had bagged 53 points ahead of Wednesday’s crucial tie against Ruvu Shooting to be played at the Mabatini venue in Mlandizi. Azam’s points are unassailable by Mbeya City though holders Young Africans have the opportunity to reach the height in the next two rounds of play should they post wins.
Stuck at 46-point mark, City’s new focus will be on second spot while praying for the holders to flop in their remaining matches on the fixture.
The match against Ashanti looked well an easy passage but the relegation-haunted side proved otherwise to salvage a point in their bid to float on the premiership fixture.
City have a crunch match against pacemakers Azam to be played at their own backyard of Sokoine Stadium on Saturday, the day Azam might seal off their maiden premiership title since joining the premiership fleet in 2008.
Unless City shock their visitors, then holders Yanga will have an opportunity to rekindle their title retention dream that has been clouded by huge uncertainty over the past two weeks.
However a lot remain to be assessed as matches are unpredictable at this stage when teams are fighting for title as well as escape from relegation.
Yanga will have to endure tough fixture as they are lined up against Kagera Sugar, JKT Oljoro and archrivals Simba. Azam have Ruvu Shooting, the rookies from Mbeya and JKT Ruvu to wind up the season.
Besides Azam, City date giant killers Mgambo JKT at their backyard on the final day of the season in a match the visitors gauge it as highly priceless in terms of their premiership survival.
Elsewhere, relegation fight is still complex to make prediction as three teams have tight-bunched points ahead of yesterday’s matches. Ashanti United, Mgambo JKT and Tanzania Prisons all had tied at the 22-point mark by yesterday as neither is safe from relegation hook. While Mgambo were in action against archrivals Coastal Union at their Mkwakwani base, the prison wardens had a date against hosts Oljoro JKT at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha.
Dead-frozen Rhino Rangers were hosting Mtibwa Sugar at their Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora in a match the visitors had nothing to lose.
