Tanzanians have been urged to invest in education and nutritious meals as the basis to improving their living standards.

Speaking at an event to raise funds yesterday in Himo Township, Moshi Rural District, the IPP Executive Chairman, Dr Reginald Mengi said it is necessary for every Tanzanian who is financially capable to invest in education.
“Such investment will improve the country’s education sector and create a society of educated people,” he told the gathering.

Dr Mengi said children from families who cannot afford the basic school needs face major hardships and it is up to those better off in the community to step in and supplement government efforts through donations and investments in the education sector.

He also emphasised the importance of good nutrition as a key in improving children’s performance in school and again called on the community to extend aid to the less fortunate.

Organised by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT), Northern diocese, the event was aimed at collecting funds for the expansion of the Benjamin Moshi Memorial English Medium School.

Dr Mengi donated a total of 100 m/- for the construction of the school and apportioned an additional 10 m/- for food to vulnerable kids at the Compassion orphanage in the Njia Panda area of Himo Township.

ELCT district pastor for Kilimanjaro East, Winford Mosha expressed gratitude for the donation and urged others to emulate Dr Mengi.

Through other donations, the church has already constructed several structures in phase one of the school project and the weekend fund raising event that was accompanied with the laying down of a foundation stone for the school, aimed to collect 350m/- needed to finalise the construction.
