Newly elected Zambian president Edgar Lungu will travel to South Africa for further medical tests after a suspected narrowing of the food pipe caused him to fall ill over the weekend.

"I am feeling much better but I have to go to South Africa this afternoon. I need to go for further tests and then if there will be need for other procedures such as surgery they will tell us," Lungu said on Tuesday.

"I hope to come back alive, no one wants to die," he said, laughing.

Lungu, 58, was discharged from the hospital on Monday where he had been receiving treatment after feeling unwell while at an International Women's Day event in the capital on Sunday.

Lungu assumed the presidency in January after winning a narrow victory in an election to replace former leader Michael Sata, who died in October, while undergoing treatment in London.

Doctors had advised Lungu to undergo specialist treatment abroad to correct the narrowing of the food pipe, which was a recurring condition.

Zambia's kwacha shed over one percent against US dollar on Tuesday as concerns over Lungu's health weighed on market sentiment

Newport Free Grammar School student Claire Wyatt, 18, from Wendens Ambo, got two Bs and a C to earn herself a place at Loughborough University this September.
But rather than spend the past couple of months agonising over the outcome of her exams, Claire has been supporting her cousin’s charity by volunteering in Africa.
She told the Reporter: “I’ve just got back from working in an orphanage in Tanzania – it was an amazing experience. I’ve been there before and taken out things like shoes, nappies, clothes and heart monitors – because a couple of the babies have heart conditions.”
As the head girl at Newport, Claire asked if she could raise money to help youngsters at the orphanage as part of her charity endeavours.
Jack got A*, A and B in his A-levels.Jack got A*, A and B in his A-levels.
Her cousin’s charity – The Small Things – was launched to improve the lives of children there and during her time as head girl Claire and the school raised £3,000.
“I first went two years ago and returned this month to see how the kids had grown up. I went with Miss Burt [a teacher] because I want the school to continue supporting the charity. It relies so much on that and I’m glad the school has agreed.”
A keen hockey player, who has had national and regional trials, Claire is hoping to sharpen her skills on the field at an institution famed for its sporting prowess.
“It’s the best uni for hockey – I’m looking forward to it,” said Claire, who is studying criminology and social policy and has aspirations of joining the police force.
The 18-year-old was not the only one who has devoted time for charity.
Deputy head girl Keely Clavering, 18, from Clavering has been volunteering at a disabled children’s club, CHIPS (Children’s Integrated Playscheme) in Bishop’s Stortford, since she was 13. The teenager is now hoping to realise her childhood ambition of becoming an geophysicist for an oil company, having got an A* and two As.
Keely, who will be studying Geophysics and geology at Durham University, said: “It’s a weird job for a girl to want to do but ever since I was little I enjoyed watching natural disaster programmes and things about the way the Earth works.
“I’ve researched what the job involves and it’s exactly what I’d like to do as a career.”
Speaking about her time at Newport, she said: “I’ve really enjoyed it. Going from Year 7 all the way through to sixth form, you get to know the teachers who help you through your studies, and go the extra mile for you. It has been great.”
Other students celebrating were Jack Craig, 18, from Duton Hill, who is going on to do creative music technology at the University of Hull after achieving an A*, A and B, and Louise Baker, who is looking to study medicine after getting three A*s and an A.
Nineteen-year-old Devon Oakley, of Kemp Road, Finchingfield, also produced a stellar set of results. She had a complete re-think about the subjects she wanted to study after struggling at AS-level.
“Originally I wanted to study medicine, but now I’d like to teach English abroad,” she said. “I like travelling and want to help as many people as I can. I went with the school to Geneva last December to the United Nations Conference and we heard about what they do.
“It inspired me to get a degree so that I can go and help people around the world who don’t have the chance to get an education.”
Devon, who got three As and a B at A-level, is now looking forward to taking up her place at Edinburgh.

Nigeria on the search for the Chibok schoolgirls
INTERVIEW
Four months ago Boko Haram fighters kidnapped more than 200 girls from a school in the village of Chibok, focusing international attention on northern Nigeria's five year insurgency.
In the meantime the media spotlight has moved elsewhere, but the girls are still missing.DW spoke to an activist in Abuja still campaigning vigorously for their release, Tsambido Hosea-Abana.
DW: What sort of state is the BringBackOurGirls campaign in?
Tsambido Hosea-Abana: The campaign is still there - and is graduating to a higher movement - now they are increasing other activities, distributing flyers and stickers. They have said they will never sit back until these girls are found.
But it has been four months now and there's still been no word of the Chibok girls. Are people still motivated?
No one expected it would take so long. We have to remind people that these girls are still there and nobody is talking about them. We have to go and talk about them! Also, some of the media have packed their things. Many media, both national and international, they are no longer coming, but we are going to visit them and invite them so that we keep on talking about these girls, so that the Ebola issue does not overpower their interests.
So not so many people are focused on the story. How is this affecting the campaign in Abuja?
It's affected the campaign because we need attention to gear us up but when there's no attention, people feel demoralized. People feel as if what they're doing is not important. But even from the beginning some people were not giving us attention. But even if there is less attention, we say we will continue.
After meeting parents of the girls last month, President Goodluck Jonathan promised he would do everything in his power to free the girls. How are those parents coping now?
Some are no longer in Chibok. Some have left to go somewhere else as a refuge because Chibok has been attacked and there is a rumour of more attacks on surrounding villages. People are fearing that the next community they will attack will again be Chibok. So many people have run away from Chibok now. And even some of the parents of the girls in the bush have died. Just three days ago, one father died because his house was burnt and he ran away to Maiduguri to find refuge but there he couldn't cope and he died. There are many victims; things are very bad in Chibok.
Tsambido Hosea-Abana is the chairman of the Chibok Association in Abuja, and a leading campaigner in the BringBackOurGirls movement.

Several people are feared killed as gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram attacked Damboa in Borno State on Friday morning.
Damboa has been reportedly deserted by soldiers since the Boko Haram attack on security formations there about two weeks ago.
According to a vigilante official in Maiduguri, who said he spoke with some of his men in the Damboa village, the gunmen stormed the village at about 5 a.m.
Abbas Gava said only a handful of youth vigilante group, known as Civilian-JTF, and some few vigilante officials were available in Damboa to protect the people.
Attempts by soldiers to return to Damboa military base since two weeks ago are said to have failed as the Boko Haram gunmen took over the highway and continued to engage soldiers in ambush attacks that have forced them to return to Maiduguri on two occasions.
"Since the attack, Damboa has no police or soldiers," Mr. Gava said. "It is only the vigilantes that are there and we know their limitations."
He said the "casualty could be very high because my contacts in Damboa said they are still picking and piling the corpses. But many houses, nearly half of what remains of the several attacked town has been burnt".
A senior security personnel, who does not want to be named confirmed the attack to PREMIUM TIMES but said "no details on extent of damage or casualty yet".
The attacks on Borno communities have continued despite a state of emergency in the state and the expenditure of trillions of naira on defence.

“I Was Raped 15 Times A Day By Different Boko Haram Men” Kidnapped Nigerian School Girl Reveals

- Wednesday, 16 July 2014 No Comments
Boko Haram post

One of the girls who escaped from Boko Haram has revealed how she was raped up to 15 times a day.

A Christian counsellor working with the few who managed to escape their Boko Haram captors reportedly told Nigerian media that this young woman was raped multiple times by different men during her ordeal.
“She found it hard to talk to me but…she confessed to me that she was raped 15 times a day by 15 men throughout the time she was with the Islamic insurgents before she could escape from their den,” Oladimeji Thomas told the press.
Despite the shocking nature of this revelation, however, it will unfortunately come as no surprise to those familiar with Boko Haram’s activity. The group, formed in 2009, has close ties to Al-Qaeda and is responsible for over 2,000 deaths so far this year alone.
Members of the extremist faction have abducted several groups of women in addition to the estimated 180 who are still missing after being taken from their school in Chibok, Borno state, on the night of April 14.
The abducted schoolgirls are thought to be being held hostage in return for captured militants, though negotiations have so far failed to ensure their release, and Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has declared the girls – many of whom who are Christian – have been “liberated” and converted to Islam.
Fears continue to mount that the girls are being held as sex slaves for militants, as well as forced into domestic servitude.
Former UK prime minister Gordon Brown, who travelled to Nigeria in the wake of the crisis in his capacity as the UN special envoy for global education, earlier condemned Shekau’s leadership as “cruel and barbaric”.
“It is urgent that all religious leaders in every part of the world speak out against their perverted and twisted version of Islam which involves forced conversions and the sale of girls as sex slaves,” he added.

- Friday, 4 July 2014 No Comments
This is Ess
Its that time of the year again; time for some Big Brother Africa action and the fever is quickly catching on among its fans. Definitely, the most watched reality show in Africa, this season is already showing all signs of being bigger and better. Auditions have already begun and each country hopes to send in the best representative to compete for the cash Prize of USD 300,00.
In Kenya, the Big Brother Fever is at Peak especially because the auditions begin today and social media is already filled with tweets of speculations on who can better represent the country and bring home our list. The closest we have gotten to the money is  second place with Prezzo who did an impressive job representing the country last year. At Niaje, the fever has caught on too and we came up with a list of Kenyans that we think should consider auditioning,

1. Vera Sidika
Photo- Buoart
Photo- Buoart
We’d obviously start with Kenyan socialite and video vixen Vera Sidika because everyone seems to think she should. Also because she looks like she loves to have fun and she also has a tough skin judging by how she has handled all her haters and mostly because not having her on this list will not make sense. Her bleaching controversy has increased her popularity and she is also one of the most searched people on Google which means that people are actually interested in her.

2. Shaffie Weru
shaffie weru
shaffie weru
Radio King and party animal Shaffie Weru would definitely do a great job flying Kenya’s flag in the house and I believe he has high chances of  bringing  the money home too. His personality is a plus and the fact that he loves to have fun and is social means that he is also entertaining and that he will always be spicing things up in the house. I think watching Shaffie would make for great entertainment.
3. Martin Kariuki
Martin Kariuki
This radio personality who happens to be an MC at all big events including The Mingle, Rugby events and the popular Karaoke at Shebeen carries the personality of an entertainer and rumors last year were that he was dating the former Kenyan BBA representative Ann Mbaru. Martin would keep the house entertained with his carefree attitude and great personality.
4. Bien Aime Baraza
Bien
Sauti Sol’s Bien should definitely give Big Brother Africa a try. First things first, ladies would love watching him because of his great body. I mean did you see all the love he got from Nishike? Yes, that actually works but mostly because I think he is interesting. He looks cool and composed and see where that got Prezzo, yes we need someone like Bien because he looks like he has his stuff together although the waist dance he did at 0.47-0:49  would definitely be a plus :D
5. Chimwani Obiajulu
Chimwani
Also in the list is Ghafla’s Self proclaimed ‘God’s chosen blogger’ Chimwani Obiajulu or Uncle Chim depending on which name represents his fun version. We watched him during the Bloggers interview on the Trend and his confidence is one thing that stood out and that should give him an edge. If  the way he pens down his articles is anything to go by, then Uncle Chim should be interesting and will  make for great entertainment.
6. Kwame Bonsu
Kwame
Apart from the obvious fact that this model/TV Presenter is eye candy, he is also very lively and energetic as evidenced by the hype he displays in Kiss TV’s Afterburn. Just the amount of energy that is loved in the Big Brother House and not forgetting that he is social too. Kwame would definitely do great in the Big Brother house and also break a few hearts while at it.
7. Joe Muchiri
Joe Muchiri
If you are active on social media then you are definitely familiar with bigwig Joe Muchiri. He is also a Presenter and Producer at Capital FM but besides that he looks like a fun person. Rarely misses out on events and that should mean that he is social.
 8. DJ Pierra Makena
Pierra
Pierra
Kenya’s hottest female Deejay, Pierra Makena will definitely do a great job bringing the money home. In fact am almost confident that Pierra will bring the cash home. To start with, she has the looks and a great body to match and on top of that, she has a great personality and is also very social.
9. Joey Muthengi
Joey
Former Hits Not Homework presenter, actress and Tusker Project Fame 6 Host, Joey Muthengi  should also consider auditioning for the reality show. She has the looks and judging from the many shows she has hosted especially the ‘Can you dance’ show she hosted years ago, she has a great personality and loves to have fun.
10. Sharon Mundia (This is Ess)
ess1Fashion Blogger Sharon Mundia alias  Ess of the This is Ess blog would definitely be great to watch. Her biggest point of course being that she is all shades of beautiful and the camera loves her . Ess however is much of a lady and seems to be very conservative so am not sure she is up for auditioning for BBA. Either way not everyone who goes to BBA should be crazy and we saw Dillish winning the show because she stole Africa’s heart with her beauty.
11. Ms. Fawwie
Ms Fawwie
Kenyan Fashionista, the exotic and breathtakingly beautiful Fauzia mostly popular as Ms. Fawwie will have everyone glued to the screens with her beauty. If you stalk her instagram like I do then you have an idea of what am talking about. She said something about wanting to represent the country this year and I hope she is still considering it.

12. Miss Ivona
Miss Ivona
The beautiful and bubbly Kiss TV Presenter Miss Ivona should definitely be  in the Big Brother House. She is not only beautiful but she is also very lively and with a great body. She Presents the  Afterburn show on Kiss TV alongside the hunky Kwame Bonsu (who is also in the list) and the two literally turn the studio into a party .You’ll be amazed at the energy they have at that time of the night and this is the kind of entertainment we need in the Big Brother house. She also seems very  interesting judging by her tweets and great  fashion sense.
