The attack took place in Mpeketeni ,Lamu County and it was one of the worst Kenya has ever experienced after the Westgate Mall attack. Over 50 heavily armed Somali men were shooting indiscriminately at residents while shouting Al Shabaab slogans.

Benson Maisori, Lamu deputy commissioner said several buildings in the town, which is around 100 kilometres from the border with Somalia, were torched.

“There were around 50 attackers, heavily armed in three vehicles, and they were flying the Shabab flag. They were shouting in Somali and shouting Allahu Akbar (‘God is Greatest’),” he said.
