Mogadishu — The embattled Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has received a motion of no-confidence from legislators in the Federal Parliament of Somalia on Thursday, Garowe Online reports. Over 130 lawmakers who on Monday called on the President to resign over incompetence met with him at the heavily fortified compound of Villa Somalia.
Though the meeting was closed doors, President Mohamud initially listened to the demand of MPs by receiving a letter bearing the signature of the motion backers.
He said, he is destined to sit down with everybody who has grievance against his administration: "You yesterday picked me for the presidency and today I can be impeached through legitimate means," President Hassan was quoted as saying by participant. Somalia President urged the organizers of no-confidence motion against his government to abide by the constitution and safeguard public interests. On 14th of April, 40 lawmakers reportedly filled a no-confidence motion against the country's head of state.
Large scale theft of government funds dealt blow to the ties between President Mohamud and International donors but his administration could hardly wean off their financial support.
