Tabora. The cause of the death of two police constables, who
were killed by gangsters this week in Ussoke, Urambo District, was a mobile phone owned by one of them, Shaban Mbua, it has been learnt.
According to Ussoke Division officer Thomas
Mollel, the two police constables, Shaban Mbua and Jumanne Mrisho, went
to a scene of robbery after they were informed that armed men were
robbing the shop of Ibrahim Mohamed at Ussoke near the Bus Stand.
He explained that when the police constables
arrived near the scene at the corner of one house they took cover, but
Mbua had a phone call and the mobile phone’s light exposed them to
gangsters.
He added that as Mbua was trying to see who the
caller was, the gangsters saw them and one gangster shot at him at the
back and the bullet came out from his chest killing him on the spot. The
gangster also shot at Mrisho in his stomach.
“The situation was very bad at the time the
gangsters arrived at the village, causing people to run without knowing
their direction, while others lying down and crawling to save
themselves,”said Mr Mollel.
According to him, the gangster, who shot dead the
police constables was an experienced person in using guns, adding that
he could have been hired from outside Ussoke to commit the crime.
A worker at Urambo District Council identified himself by one name of Leonard said they were going to Tabora from Urambo only to find that one police constable was killed and another seriously wounded by the gangsters.
“We told people that it is better if we go to Tabora with Jumanne Mrisho, who was saying even if they take him to Kitete Hospital he was sure he was not going to survive,” said Leonard.
According to him, communication was done with
people in Urambo and eventually an ambulance came and took Mrisho to
Kitete Hospital the same night.
Many people in Ussoke, which is about 36km from Urambo praised Regional Police Commander ACP Suzan Kaganda for her courage to arrive at the scene few minutes after the incident.
“We praised her because she arrived after 50 minutes and we discussed together what to do,” said Haruna Juma.
Mr Mbua joined the Police Force only two years ago and Mrisho joined in 2011.
