The Mainland Premier League title race between defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) and Azam FC continues today when the two will be in action at different venues.

Yanga host JKT Ruvu at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam while Azam FC visit Ruvu Shooting at Mabatini grounds in Coast Region.

Today’s matches will at least give a clear picture of which team is likely to win especially if Azam FC wins or maintain their unbeaten record.

If Azam FC win, they will just need three points to be declared new champions and make history of winning it for the first time since the team was formed.

After today’s game, the Chamazi-based lads will remain with two games to go.
Azam FC secretary general Nassor Idrissa boasts that soccer maniacs should expect a big change this season, that nothing will stop his boys from lifting the trophy.

Although Azam FC are clear favourites through their consistent performance but anything can happen in today’s game as their opponents have also prepared well.

Yanga have an edge in today’s game despite missing five regulars, Nadir Haroub 'Cannavaro', Haruna Niyonzima, Emmanuel Okwi, Athumani Idd and Kelvin Yondani.
Cannavaro and Niyonzima are reported to be sick while Okwi, Idd and Yondani are nowhere to be seen.

The players have not been seen since their team were beaten 2-1 by Mgambo JKT in the match played at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.

Yanga coach Hans van der Pluijm, believes that the title race is still open and his team can still retain the title.

The Yanga match is expected to be tougher because they are playing a team which is not under pressure.

Critics say that JKT Ruvu may give three points on the grounds that they are trained by Jangwani Street veteran Fred Felix ‘Minziro.’

Nevertheless, Minziro may also want to prove that he is a good coach after Yanga sacked him when their team was hit 3-1 by   bitter rivals Simba in the ‘Mtani Jembe’ encounter towards the end of last year.

JKT Ruvu will depend on players such as Amosi Mgisa and Emmanuel Swita.
Yanga are placed second with 46 points and still have three games to go.
Azam top the league on 53 points and have two games to go.

Other matches on the menu today are Coastal Union vs Mgambo Shooting at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, JKT Oljoro vs Tanzania Prisons at the Sheikh Amri Abeid in Arusha and Rhino Rangers vs Mtibwa Sugar at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi in Tabora.
