Dar es Salaam. President Jakaya Kikwete has decried the frequent road accidents that continue to claim the lives of innocent Tanzanians and rob the country of its workforce.
The President issued the alarm as the number of those who died in the Simiyu accident rose to 14, according to the police. Three more victims who had been admitted in hiospital passed away yesterday.
In his condolence message, President Kikwete said the death of the 14 was painful and unwarranted.
Within a Month, three accidents have occurred in various regions in the country, claiming the lives of more than than 50 Tanzanians.
At least 21 people died in Rufiji District while 14 were killed at Makupa Village in Same District, Kilimanjaro Region in an almost similar head-on-collision, the three accidents in a space of one month rekindles the now common experience of road carnage that have crippled the country lives of innocent civilians.
“I was shocked when I heard this bad news of the accident in Busega district,” read the statement.
The President also wished a quick recovery to all those who were injured during the accident so that they will soon return to their daily activities.
Meanwhile the President also sent his condolences to Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda following death of the Kalambo District Commissioner Mr Moshi Chan’ga.
He detailed that the death has also took away the person who was strong and credible advocating for the country’s development, “I knew him in 1979 when he joined CCM, the party which he had diligently worked until 2003 when he was appointed to become a DC,” said the President.
DC Chan’ga died on Sunday and is expected to be laid to rest today at Kihesa in Iringa region.
