Six people died and several others were injured in separate road and marine accidents between Thursday and Friday this week in Bunda District, Mara Region.
The first accident occurred last Thursday evening on Mwanza-Musoma highway, involving Noah, with registration, No.T. 258 BRB.
The vehicle hit Vincent Magesha, Chairman of Kunzugu village. A passenger escaped with minor injury.
The police said the second accident occurred on the same night in Serengeti District that involved Fuso No T. 437 AKN, coming from Dutwa auction mart in Bariadi District, heading to Bunda.
A resident of Bunda Danile Boniphace (30) died on the spot and 30 other people were badly injured.
The police attributed the accident to a group of wildebeests from Serengeti National Park crossing the highway, making the driver to lose control as he attempted to avoid them.
According to medical attendants on duty at DDH-Bunda Hospital, who declined to give names said the injured persons are Gerald Hamenya (30), Chigwenyi Musimu (40), Mkami Munanka (20), Duta Pinu (35), Mwita Mung’are (26), Njire Zanzibar (33), Robert Fabian (31), Gerald Gurani (37), George Natusi (30) and James Mungine (16), all from Bunda District.
Others are Stephen Segese (16), Juma Julius (37), Ezekiel Julius (31), James Lwala (45), Makoba Maduhu (23), Magdalena Farancis (35), all from Bunda Urban and Roda Paul (18), Musoma residents.
Anastazia Nyarari (45), Mariam Tega (39), Joyce Jackison (28), Giradis Laurent (38), Wakuru Makanga (36), Ripa Munigu (41), Wiliada Mato (52) and Agines Mwita (40), all from Bunda, were other injured persons.
In another accident last Friday morning in Tairo, Hiace number T. 521 CSU owned by Rukanga Charles, driven by Shimba Willison, a resident of Bunda, hit a motorcycle rider Safari Hamis (35), dying on the spot and a passenger Nyanjige Magafu Kaboja (35) died few hours after being admitted to hospital.
In yet another accident on April 16, a boat sank at night in Lake Victoria at Isanju village, Iramba ward where two people, father and son, drowned after their boat hit by a storm caused by heavy rains.
Iramba County Executive Officer, Marko Mabula named the deceased as Kanywagale Mkangara (61) and his son Mtaki Kanywagale (36) all from Isanju village.
Yesterday, Mara Regional Police commander Ferdinand Mtui could not be reached for comment, but the district police officers said the road accidents were due mainly to speeding.
