Dar es Salaam. Members of the Constituent Assembly (CA) have been urged to focus on improving the second Draft Constitution, instead of showing one another their political inclinations.
The call was made in Dar es Salaam by the deputy chairman of the former Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) and retired Chief Justice, Augustino Ramadhani, during a workshop which brought together legal experts and politicians.
Justice Ramadhani said that the members would not help the nation if they fail to agree on improvements which should be added to the proposed law.
He was speaking at a symposium organised in Dar es Salaam recently by the Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA).
He said that the CRC had done its work by listening to people’s views, analysing them and writing the Draft Constitution.
He urged the Assembly members to stop arguing along party lines and put forward nation’s interests.
“People are waiting for a good constitution... Tanzanians are eager to get a new MotherLaw, which will help them to move ahead. Therefore, the CA members should think of interests of these Tanzanians, when debating the Draft Constitution,” he stressed.
