Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA) in collaboration with Steps Solar Company has launched a programme to power all dispensaries and police stations in Dar es Salaam that currently do not have electricity.
The installation started last Friday in Kigamboni with the targeted areas being stations not connected to the national electricity grid, local government offices, orphanages and schools.
Under the programme TAREA and Steps company intends to supply solar energy equipment worth 30m/- to enable the areas access electricity.
Selles Mapunda the company’s Marketing Manager said in Kigamboni, the plan was to connect three police stations, three orphanages, four dispensaries and two local government offices, while schools expected to benefit include Kidete and Kibugumo.
The dispensaries identified for the first phase of the programme are Kibugumo, Mji Mwema, Tuangoma and Homboza.
The orphanages that will get free solar equipment are Ungindoni, Mji Mwema, Mti Mrefu and Yatima Charity, and Mji Mwema and Feri local governments. He also said the Mji Mwema Police station will be among the stations that will benefit from the program.
Steps Solar and TAREA have agreed to install the solar system free of charge.
